Rita Has Arrived in the DR!

As most of the traveling party gets ready for an early bedtime and an early rising on Friday, we're delighted to hear that our leader Rita Severinghaus has arrived in the Dominican Republic.  Here is her report:

I got in at 6:30 pm. The flight sat on the JFK tarmac for 45 minutes! After takeoff, we had a bit of turbulence over the southeastern US.  I'm pooped, but all's well.  I'm now settled in for the night. Tomorrow I'm meeting with folks here to check rooms, plan dinner and breakfast. The temperature is in the 70's,  with hazy weather. Chimes are ringing in the gardens. I'm praying for clear weather for the group's arrival. Erick the manager mentioned that two days ago a flight was re-routed to Santo Domingo due to lack of visibility.

Airport advice: Remember the free carts by the belt at the Santiago airport, and also,  turn down the help with luggage offered by folks in customs section after turning in your customs cards. We will have enough folks loading the bus.

Zika update:  I just spoke to a lab worker at Santiago major hospital. There was a big meeting today, but there is no lab evidence of Zika so far.

See you manana!  Blessings,

Rita
